3-hour glucose test

So I had to take the dreaded 3-hour glucose test earlier last week since I failed {let myself down} and did not pass on the first go-round. I do love sweets, which is why I'm not sure I was so surprised when I was told that my blood sugar was 139.

Nine measly points!!

All kinds of thoughts ran through my mind..I should have never ate those Oreo's on Sunday or spoonfuls of peanut butter the day before. But what about all the good food I've kinda/sorta eaten too?  Oh well, ultimately I'm not an awesome eater. Uh sorry Liv..I'm trying!

I was told I needed to come back in a week for the 3-hour screening, which would be July 25th. Which also happened to fall on our 3rd year wedding anniversary.  I figured It might work out best to move the appointment to the 26th and just take (Thurs & Fri) off work along with Brant. Sounded good to me, we both could spend some quality time together and tackle some projects (packing) since we will soon be moving.

My appointment was set, I was scheduled to come to the office on Thursday, July 26th at 8:00 for the BIG test. I had a week to prepare. However, Brant's birthday was the Friday before and well, weekends are always difficult for me to eat 'proper'. I may have had a little Red Lobster and  strawberry pie (sugar-free of course) from a local bakery but I was determined that I was going to pass. I drank nothing but milk and water the entire week. {Before I was drinking chocolate milk..ha!  I can cut back!} By the way, it's amazzzing how much sugar is in our foods.  A trip to the grocery store made me more mindful to look more closely at labels.

The day arrived for the sugar test.  I had prepared myself that if I didn't pass, it would be OKAY. I went in a little early thinking maybe I could get out a little early since we had to be in Anderson for Brant's doctor appointment by 1:00. I usually make early OB appointments so I can get in and out quickly before going to work. However on this particular Thursday, the office was packed. My theory on getting in and out might have been a bust.

I was called back at 7:55...there was
 no. turning. back.

My fasting blood sugar was 69. That's kinda low for a pregnant woman, but I'll take it. Since I chugged the orange sugary concoction the week before, I figured I better stick with familiar territory. I really did not have any trouble drinking the 10 ounces which is twice as much as I had the week before. It probably took me about 2 minutes flat to drink the entire bottle. Kudos!

We live about 10 minutes away from the office so I decided to go home, rest, and come back for each sugar check. Brant graciously drove me since I didn't know how quickly my sugar would drop, etc.

The breakdown:
Hour 1 - 143 / had to be under 180
Hour 2 - 128 / had to be under 155
Hour 3 - 105 / had to be under 140

I passed!

Just a few tips I gathered

It's okay to like sweets (I personally LOVE them); just be mindful close to your glucose screening to watch your diet. Don't eat Oreo's and peanut butter..BAD!
Stick with the orange flavor.
If you have trouble drinking the concoction, ask for a straw.
If you live close by and can go home, go home! I would have been miserable staying in the office for a total of 4 hours.
Side note: On one of my trips to/from the office, a lady had passed out in the lobby. It was a 100 degree day outside and the office was packed. I felt soo sorry for her. But, I heard her tell the doctor she did not eat or sleep well the night before. And she was pregnant. Eat well people!

What's next for the Anderson's?

Two words:

Weeks 23 - 26

Playing catch up, again!

Your baby's the size of a grapefruit!
At about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces, baby's not just getting bigger, she's getting even cuter.

Sunday July 1, 2012 - marked 23 weeks for Liv. It was a HOT, HOT day. Our church had a 4th of July celebration after worship and I remember wanting to melt. Since the 4th fell on a Wednesday (awkward), we didn't do too much. Liv went for her first swim in her cousins brand new pool!

Later that evening we enjoyed BBQ and fireworks at our neighbors. Lot's of fun memories had by all!

We had a surprise visit from My Brother, sister-in-law, & nephew Elijah on Saturday. They stopped by on their way home from Pigeon Forge, TN. It was so fun to see them on such short notice.  Our nephew is growing RIGHT before our eyes!
He LOVES driving Papa's gator

Your baby's the size of a cantaloupe!
Your 10.5-to-11.8-inch fetus weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces and every week she gets closer and closer to being ready to survive (and thrive!) in the outside world.

Liv received her first baby gift this week.  A sweet pink footed sleeper with ruffles on the bottom and feet. It is precious! Even better, it came in a Gamecock bag! Thanks - John & Jerri!

Your baby's the size of an cauliflower!
During month six, the average fetus measures about 13.6 inches to 14.8 inches and weighs about 1.5 to 2.5 pounds.

I failed my 1 hour glucose test by 9 points. Bummer! I guess I didn't prepare myself as well beforehand. I'm dreading the 3-hour test, but this girl, (future MOM) has gotta do what she's gotta do.  Liv has been moving like the Karate Kid. It's amazing to feel and see her move. She had hiccups on Friday and my heart just melted every time I saw my stomach move. She was celebrating her daddy's 29th Birthday..{her own way} stubborn like her Mama!!

Your baby's the size of a head of lettuce!
She's still growing in the 13.6- to 14.8-inch and 1.5- to 2.5-pound range, and developing her senses, features and talents!

How far along? 26 weeks

Maternity clothes? Yes. I think I don't have a choice at this point. I might need to move to stage 2 of the maternity clothes...next size bigger. I feel like my hips are expanding along with the belly.

Symptoms?  Low back pain & leg cramps

Stretch marks?  Still none! Praying they will stay away! I'm religious with the use of my creme..lol

Sleep?  I think I have pregnancy insomnia. Some nights I sleep, some I don't. Liv likes to move a lot during the night hours. I also have to take 1 or 2 bathroom breaks.

Best moment this week?  Her hiccup episode...made my heart skip a beat. I'm in love with her soo much.

Movement? She kicked when we were trying to listen to her heartbeat on the fetal doppler. (I think that was the first movement my Mom has seen.)

Cravings? I don't have any cravings this week...3 hour glucose screening on Thurs..pray for me!!

Gender? She's still a girl:) Sarah Olivia (Liv) Anderson

Labor Signs? Goodness no!

Belly button In or Out? So in, but flat-lining a little. I pray it does not pop out!

What I miss? Being productive, turkey sandwiches, not feeling like I can eat what I want. I'm trying to be mindful of my sweets and diet intake from this point forward.

What I'm looking forward to?  Brant and I have our three year Anniversary on Wednesday. Birthing classes in August, finishing up the 2nd trimester & 4-D ultrasound in the near future!

Weekly wisdom? I don't think I have any...but watching Teen Mom on MTV gives me a lot of 'what not to do' advise. ha!

Milestones?  Brant celebrated his birthday on Friday. Papa Butch celebrates his birthday on July 24th; and 3 year's of blissful marriage on July 25th.

Crafty{ness}

Maybe not! I tend to try something and then get fed up very quickly. Yep, that's how I roll.

I could spend hours upon hours on Pinterest. I think by now, every female and their mother should have a Pinterest account. If you don't, you're missing out!! I love to 'pin' recipes, crafts, home remedies/cleaners & well, stuff I can only dream about.

One craft on my to-do list is to make some fabric flowers. Here is a blog I found on how to make the flowers. I'm sure there are others that I will try soon, but I wanted to try something quick and easy! I went to  the craft store and bought 1/4 yards of fabric (which was more than enough and very cheap.) I then came home and cut various size strips about 22 inches long and followed the tutorial in the blog above. The only other thing you need is a hot glue gun.

Viola!

The three rosettes above took me about 20 minutes to make and I have 1/2 of the fabric left. Hopefully soon, I will try other tutorials and find out which one I like best.

Catching Up (weeks 21 & 22)

Hello Summer! Yesterday was absolutely unbearable for me. I could barely walk outside without the heat and humidity taking my breath away.  Oh well, welcome to the South! I guess the hot weather will cease when baby Liv arrives.

I've started many projects and have yet to finish one. Shame, shame...Pinterest is getting me in trouble!

Let's see - I have a half painted mantle, unfinished hair bow holder and a glider/rocker that needs a slip cover. I also need to order fabric for the slip cover, bed skirt for the crib and pillows. As a side note; Brant and I have decided to forgo the typical crib bedding and not have a bumper. As pretty as they are, we just don't want to risk a safety issue of something happening with suffocation. It's better to be proactive than not active at all!  Baby Liv's bedding will be lovingly made which will be much more meaningful!

I really don't know how to describe the decor of the nursery. Something along the lines of modern, vintage, cozy and chic all meshed into one. I told you it was hard to describe, ha!

In other news, how AWESOME is it to be a Gamecock fan right about now? Our defending National Champions have another opportunity to win the CWS title and make it a three-peat! I'm not too sure about everyone in the state of South Carolina, (we do have some haters) but I feel good, ecstatic about our current situation! We are two games away from another win and can only hope LB Dantzler's fish, "Reptar" helps us out with two more victories against Arizona. Fear the fish!!

18 more weeks to go for baby Liv!

How far along? 22 weeks

Maternity clothes? Yes. They feel so much better than trying to constrain my belly into tight pants. I LOVE dresses!

Symptoms? Back pain and a few headaches.

Stretch marks? None! Hopefully they will stay away! I'm religious with the use of my creme..lol

Sleep?  I'm sleeping pretty well. Once my head hits the pillow, I'm out!

Best moment this week? Feeling and (seeing) some kicks on the left side of my belly & receiving some girly outfits from Zulilly.com.

Movement? See above - I'm ready for her to really move. She was moving some during church today.  She just loves joyful music and preaching. ;-)

Cravings? Firehouse 'hook and ladder' sub.... that about sums it up!

Gender? She's still a girl:) Sarah Olivia (Liv) Anderson

Labor Signs? Goodness no!

Belly button In or Out? So in.

What I miss? Being productive, turkey sandwiches, not feeling like a walrus in a swimsuit!

What I'm looking forward to? Next doctors appointment which is Wednesday. Completing some unfinished projects and making some fabric rosettes.

Weekly wisdom? Avoid putting SPF sunscreen on babies until 6 months of age.

Milestones?  Grandma, 'Gabby' had a Birthday on Friday, Gamecocks are playing for the CWS - 3rd year and first Gamecock outfit is in the process of being made.

20 weeks

I've officially hit the 20 week mark - only 20 weeks {or less} to go! In those remaining 20 weeks I have TONS to accomplish. I would be forever and a day listing out all I need to do.

{I'll just save that for another blog..ha!}

Baby Anderson is now the size of a Mango. She weighs about 10 oz and is 6.5 inches long.  According to my last ultrasound she is measuring right on schedule. PTL! It's always great to hear good news - especially since I'm not the perfect epitome of health.

How far along?   20 weeks

Maternity clothes?   Yes. I'm still able to mix some maternity with my regular clothes - with the use of the Bella band. I did put on some Bermuda shorts yesterday that I could not zip..depressing!  Oh well, it's ALL worth it!

Symptoms?   Back pain and a few headaches.

Stretch marks?   None! Hopefully they will stay away! I'm religious with the use of my creme..lol

Sleep?  Pretty lousy.  I toss and turn a lot - due to not being comfortable. But once I'm out, I'm OUT - except for a bathroom break.

Best moment this week?   (2 weeks ago) finding out the gender. This week - deciding the nursery colors/theme.

Movement?  I think I feel a little movement, but am not quite sure. May still be to early in the pregnancy to tell.

Cravings?   Peanut M&M's and Popsicles.

Gender?   She's still a girl:) Sarah Olivia (Liv) Anderson

Labor Signs?   Goodness no!

Belly button In or Out?   So in.

What I miss?   Being productive and turkey sandwiches.

What I'm looking forward to?   Next doctors appointment which is 2 weeks away. Oh and finally getting my maternity swimsuit from Zulilly.com.

Weekly wisdom?   Once in labor if they ask if students can observe - say NO!

Milestones?   The bump is out and evidently grew overnight!

Cheers to 20 weeks and the 1st published picture of the bump!

Lilly?

I'm ashamed {head facing down; lips poked out}. I haven't blogged since March.

Here's why:

I promise they are legit reasons!

1. Sometime between March and present day - Blogger changed. My trusty ole' Internet Explorer would no longer let me blog. I could read blogs, but not type anything. I guess due to laziness (my busy lifestyle), I just read what other people wrote. Therefore, I never made any attempt to search out a new browser. Yadda, yadda, yadda (I feel like I'm on Seinfeld) and here we are.

2.  Since the end of January, my body has gone through a lot of changes. I'm sure within the next four months the word "a lot" will be an understatement. My husband and I are expecting a sweet "baybee" GIRL in October. Thoughts/feelings so far? A. I thought I would never get through the nausea stage - but I did!  I feel about 80% better. B. Some people love being pregnant - me, not so much. I love the thought of clothes fitting - not everything being so tight. C. Speaking of clothes - maternity clothes are sooo expensive. I'm fortunate that my Sister-in-law let me borrow some of hers to use. I have also bought some stuff along the way and am currently mixing non-maternity with a few maternity pieces. I guess I better start getting creative with my wardrobe!

I will be 20 weeks on Sunday.  That means it's time to show the bump; yes I have a bump! Some days it's bigger than others, but I've read that you can have a come and go belly. On my bigger days I've been asked 'are you having twins'? To my relief...goodness no! I don't want to trade our single Bob stroller for a double.

Since finding out we're having a girl..I've been told "get ready". I know I know...my days are over. This baby is already spoiled. I have purchased a few things but must show my steal of a deal that I scored at a consignment shop yesterday. I found a Lilly Pulitzer cable knit sweater for $20 brand spankin' new with a $58 retail tag on it. Umm yes please.  My not so great day became w.o.n.d.e.r.f.u.l!!

Tribute to Brylie

March is almost over and I have not blogged since February. BAD! {I know.}

I promise to do better!

My precious niece Brylie just turned 4 this past Wednesday. She may be the BIG number 4, but she knows a lot more than other kids her age. See below:

Brylie has also accomplished a lot more than her twenty-nine year old aunt, {moi}.

Let me explain:

1. She can upload a picture of herself to Facebook. Well, I can do this now...because I have an iPhone. But about a month ago....I had no idea how to post a picture from my phone. I could get on Facebook but that was about the extent of it.  (Technology and a phone upgrade has helped make my life a little easier.)

2. She has defeated every level of Angry Birds. I was introduced to this game back in October by my husband, who is also obsessed with defeating every level of Angry Birds. For me, yeah it's fun...but really? I cannot spend hours upon hours on this game. I think I still have the app on my iPad, but not on my phone...so sorry Angry Birds - you win.

3. She averages 512 points a game in Words With Friends. My husband is also obsessed with this game, as are many of our friends. It's a fun game if you like Scrabble - but playing against my husband makes me soooo MAD. I'm not sure how he can get 45 point words off just 3 or 4 letters. One night, I just deleted the app off my phone accusing him of cheating. Now Brant is one smart cookie, but can he not let me ever win? Geez!

Obviously Brant stretched his Facebook post a wee bit, but majority of it is true!  (I might get upset if she averages 512 points a game in Words With Friends. Just because I actually like that game and feel that I can't play it to prove a point to my husband.)

So it goes to show that my sweet Brylie has conquered more in the technology world than me. Besides all this technology - she also LOVES The Lion King, Justin Bieber, animals - (big & small), fishing, and American Girl. She is truly a blessing in our lives and growing up every day!

Happy Birthday Brylie!!

6 more weeks of Winter??

January has come and gone...how bizarre is that??
Time just flies nowadays.

I love February for many reasons.

 Groundhog Day 2012
Can you believe Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow?? I'm not ready for 6 more weeks of winter. BUT from the looks of it, we never really even had a winter. I mean, how accurate can a groundhog be? His record has been pretty bad over the years. I don't even think the local forecasters can get our weather right..it was supposed to rain all day yesterday...complete opposite - Beautiful!

I do want to watch the classic '93 movie, Groundhog Day with Bill Murray & Andie MacDowell as it is a tradition in the Anderson household. Maybe I'll find some time today before the Super Bowl.

Little late - but okay.

You can never go wrong with any 80's or early 90's movie.

Hands down.

Valentine's Day
Brant and I bought very little for each other this past Christmas. I think we are very fortunate with what we do have, that it's hard to spend money on something that we don't need.  Brant also gave me an Apple iPad back in October, so I really did not need anything for the next year or so...he he!

We usually do not spend a lot of money on Valentines Day either, but this year is different.  I love to give gifts, even more...I love to wrap gifts. I have already wrapped all of Brants' Valentines gifts, but kindly asked him not to wrap mine. Here's why: He wrapped my Shark Steam mop along with tons of compartments in the past and it was a total disaster...not to mention with the use of my "good" wrapping paper. I am obsessed with quality wrapping paper, if you're going to attempt to wrap a gift, please use cheap paper. OCD?? That's why I love him!
He has ensured me that he will be using bags this year - so no worries!

He knows everything he is getting from me. Maybe because I get soo excited about things, I offer hints to help him out. I think that's sweet of me to do so. However, the anticipation is killing me. I have asked for simple things, like a Costco membership and a camera strap. Those are fun and easy gifts, right? Either way, I'm sure he will not disappoint.

{Randomness I know.}

Biggest Loser update:
Week 3 - gained .8 lbs (boo!)
Week 4 - lost .6 lbs

Brant and I traveled to Trenton, SC to a furniture auction for Anthropologie, Free People, & Urban Outfitters on Saturday. Who knew there would be soo many people there?? They had some great rugs, couches, chairs and tables that were going for cheap. $3,000 retail for around $150-$200. I think the highest bid I heard was around $500 for like granite kitchen table which is pretty awesome.

Yes, some pieces were damaged but nothing you couldn't work around. They had a lot of furniture to auction (around 450 items), so it was fast moving and quick. The people behind us kept saying that they had gotten many of the same pieces for a lot less at previous auctions. So, my thought is to wait it out and keep coming to the auctions - only to hope not as many people will be there! Maybe then, I can get something that is already highly discounted for much much less.

Afterwards, we left and ate BBQ in Aiken. Stuffed? YES! That is all I had yesterday and I'm still feeling awful this morning.

I'm sure tonight's Super Bowl food will not help me either.

Have a Super Sunday, everyone!

2.5

Years ago.....
I married my BEST Friend!

Anderson party of two was finally established on July 25, 2009. If you don't know us, we dated a total of nine years before taking the big step. Our courtship began back in '00 and has been wonderful ever since!

The wedding was awesome! We still have people talking about it. Not to mention the food, decor, and band. Let's just say, we were very blessed!

After the wedding without much rest, we headed to Maui, Hawaii for our honeymoon. Again, sooo much fun. It was my second trip to Hawaii, but first time in Maui.

3 AM drive to see the sunrise on Mount Haleakla. Not your normal warm temps for Maui. It was freezing.
Oh, If your wondering why I had a big red cut on my nose, I fell face first on some rocks in the ocean the first day. I had some brusies, but what's a trip without a story?

Boat cruise on the Lahaina Harbor..choppy water and drinks...not a good mix!

Dinner at Mama's Fish house the last night. Very good, however the shrimp I ordered was as long as my hand...a little creepy. Evidently the resuaruant is very poplur among the celebrities. They have an entire wall with signed autographs of the rich and famous.  The only person we saw remotely close to fame was former LA Lakers player - James Worthy.

So, after 2.5 years of marriage or 11.5 years (dating) - I'm still smitten over this guy. I look forward to many, many more years together.

Updates

Remember when I said I joined the Biggest Loser at work? I am proud to say that I have not had to pay any money after two weeks!

Week 1 - lost 1.2 lbs
Week 2 - stayed the same
Week 3 - say a prayer!

I only have oh...10 more weeks to go in this challenge. I know their is NO chance of me winning, but at least I can learn some good tips along the way. I tend to eat really strict during the week and eat whatever I want on the weekends. {terrible I know.}  Food is just sooo good.  I have been blessed to remain the same size for the past 10-15 years and usually stay around 2-3 lbs over/under my norm...yes, blessed again.  I have always had a great metabolism, but I'm slowly seeing some areas

 I. don't. like.

That means, it's time to start working out.

I'm debating on joining a gym. But before I do, I'm going to try to take this challenge with use of my own personal equipment. I have an elliptical that is collecting dust, as well as, tons of workout tapes, {Jillian} and a great neighborhood to run in. Why pay, when I can achieve the same results for FREE? As a side note I was an awesome distance runner back in high school....don't know what happened?

Hopefully this "Spring-like" weather will give me the boost that I need!

In other news, I have had a lot of emotion this past week. I'm not really sure what's going on with me. I have had so many thoughts running through my mind lately. Uneasy and unsettling feelings. My heart is heavy for the ones that have lost family members, battling illnesses and facing difficult times. I find myself in constant prayer for those around me. I just have to remember to "Let go and Let God". He will take care of us and our burdens!

I just finished reading the The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It's a great book. Who knew there are soo many dialects but only 5 languages? My top two love languages are Acts of Service and Gifts. Really strange, beacuse when I was reading the book I was certain that my top language would be Quality time.

It's a must read for all couples who are married or thinking about getting married. And...It will highly influence your ways of communicating with your spouse! Make sure your hubby reads it too.

Zulilly.com has Lappers on their website today. These make great gifts and are not a bad price $12.99. If you miss the Zulilly sale, they are on the Q as well...my other favorite website!!

It's okay...

It's okay....

.......... that I have not washed clothes in over two weeks. The pile keeps getting bigger by the day.
And well... I just sigh.
The thought of folding, hanging, and ironing scares me!

.......... that my hair looked awful today. I woke up with a major mess on my hands this AM and should have not made the decision of skipping out on washing it. Adding curls made it worse.

.......... that the Clemson Tigers lost. Can't win them all right??

.......... that I have been driving my car around for the past  month with the maintenance light on...better get that looked at soon. It's 'waaay' past time for an oil change.

.......... that I have not had a pedicure since September. I feel so unfeminine. I must go get one this weekend.

.......... that I feel unproductive at work. Seems like when I finally get something accomplished, I have ten things added. Three words: I feel blessed. Job security, maybe?

oh well, tomorrow is Friday!

Happy NEW Year...err.. Biggest Loser

It's January! NEW life, NEW year and NEW beginnings! I'm so anxious to see what God has in store for 2012.

Brant and I had a quiet NYE, which was ohh so nice. We rang in the New Year with take-out from Chili's and Carson Daly on NBC. Nothing better!

One of our hopes was to bring home a Gamecock win from Orlando - success! I'm sure I will see one happy hubby when he walks through the door tonight.

“We’re a happy bunch of guys,” Spurrier said. “Like I told the guys, next year’s team, they’ll try to win 12 because 11 already happened. So we’ll have some new goals next year.”

Resolutions for 2012
Read {finish} at least one book a month
Regularly attend Sunday school {church is a must}
Lose 10-15 lbs & start running
Spend 30 minutes a day cleaning/organizing
Save $$$

Keep your fingers crossed I can accomplish all of these!

My work is starting "The Biggest Loser" this Friday. I hope I'm ready for the 12 week journey - which is until the end of March. I'm somewhat optimistic, because March is just around the corner. I can give up Zaxby's for three months..errr..no problem!

I really would like to get some areas of my body back in shape before I lose all control. So after Friday, I will either be on our elliptical in the spare bedroom {which is collecting dust}, or working out with Jillian with her 30 day shred DVD.

Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted of my results!
